Saggar Alchemy

Saggar fired pottery, born from the alchemy of earth, fire, and the unexpected dance of combustibles, embodies a profound connection between nature and artistry. In the crucible of the kiln, where wood, leaves, and other organic materials ignite, a vivid tapestry of colors and textures emerges, each piece emerging with unpredictable beauty of the creative process.

As an artist, I’m drawn to the magic of saggar firing. It means surrendering control to the flames, allowing the kiln's chaotic embrace to transform my vessels into one-of-a-kind pieces. I carefully layer combustibles around the pottery, and each releases whispers of smoke and fire, imprinting a unique fingerprint on each piece. The result is a symphony of earthy hues, from rustic reds to deep charcoals, complemented by the subtle interplay of ash and ember.

Saggar fired pottery, with its tactile and visual richness, invites exploration of the tactile intricacies of each piece. The textures are reminiscent of ancient landscapes.

In this medium, I find beauty in the unexpected, and celebrate the imperfections and the alchemical transformations of fire-kissed brilliance.
